Delivering Shareholder Value

‘Is your company Investor-Ready?’

Most Shareholders/Owners in companies at some point want to realise or enhance their investment, and this often means bringing in investors. For many organisations, bringing investors in for the first time can be a major catalyst for change. The company goes through several stages:

  • Justifying that you are a good business to invest in.
  • Bringing the investors on board, including the due diligence process.
  • Ensuring company performance is sustained and/or uplifted in line with the business arrangement.
  • Managing the relationship with the investors going forward to make sure all stakeholders achieve maximum value from the arrangement.

The most obvious thing is that the arrangement brings with it an injection of capital, which can enable the company to invest in new areas, often unleashing new energy and ideas. At the same time, investment usually comes with considerably increased expectations and accountability for the leadership team. Demanding growth objectives are often linked to the servicing of debt or meeting bank lending covenants. Altogether the stakes are going to be much higher – both in terms of potential rewards and consequences.
